Mājas lapa: Taliharja Vanakuri Winter Ultra 2023 – Hiiumaa
Pieteikšanās lapa: Taliharja Vanakuri Winter Ultra 2023 – Hiiumaa pieteikšanās
TALIHARJA VANAKURI
is a 101 km winter ultra endurance race mostly in darkness through Hiiumaa island’s vast forests & bogs that runs on snowy/icy/muddy small roads & rough trails. There is also an option to participate in a shorter 51km “pehmo” version of the race or extend the endurance experience with extra 24km finish loop “Sõge sõõr”.
RACE COURSE
Main race course is a linear 101km long journey and is partly marked. Route runs mostly on marked hiking trails, but sections of it are not marked and participants must navigate the course themselves with GPS device or map. Race can be done either on foot, on skis or by bike. Racers must follow the race course and they are not allowed to do short cuts. When travelling on open roads traffic law must be followed. Sun sets 16.06 and light fades at 16.59 so a big portion of the race course will be completed in darkness! Race course can be relatively easy (road) or extremely tough at times – this means there can be narrow overgrown tracks, abundance of fallen trees, muddy forest machine tracks, wet swamp, ditches or no trail at all. This course will definitely challenge all participants and will feel really uncomfortable at times.

GETTING TO RACE CENTER & ACCOMMODATION
Participants should arrive to race center with own transport. If you fly to Tallinn it’s possible to get to race center by public transport:
BUS – 2 busses per day, 4h drive, ticket 14eur one way (https://www.tpilet.ee/en/).
PLANE – It’s possible to fly from Tallinn to Kärdla (25 eur one way), limited places. https://sll.flights/booking?___store=en&___from_store=et
CAR – you can probably find transport with some other racers or rent a car for more convenient travel. When driving you need to also buy ferry tickets – https://www.praamid.ee/en/homepage/ Rohuküla harbour (main land) – Heltermaa harbour (Hiiumaa island). One way ticket about 15 eur per car + little more for people. Only half of the tickets are sold in web, you can also go straight to harbour. As it’s low season there shouldn’t be a problem getting on the ferry. Ferry ride about 1h15min.
Lodging options before and after race are being determined.
There are about 30 beds (20eur) & floor accommodation (price tbd) available in race center Hiiumaa Sportscenter. Write to spordikeskus@hiiumaa.ee to book. After race accommodation on floor is included in race fee (need to have own sleeping gear). There will be other accommodation options available in Kärdla that local tourism board suggests (no info yet). You can also use booking /airbnb to find a place that suits you.
Kärdla is a nice small town with a lot of supermarkets open til 22.00 so you will not go hungry!
