Escape from Paldiski

STORY

A brief look back at what has happened in recent years:

In March 2020, after spending drunken night in Põltsamaa and meeting the love of your life – the 1994 beauty queen of Järva County, you are forced to flee the town. After that, you will spend a year in the prairies of wild Estonia, eating only canned raccoon meat, and in the spring of 2021 you will arrive in Põlva in search of the 1994 beauty queen of Järva County. But there, too, you won’t be able to spend too much time, and you’ll have to set foot on the escape route again. This time you escape from the local Passat’s.

Having successfully fleed the Passats, the 24h escape has done its job to your body. The previous year-long onesided diet of raccoon meat and living in the prairies of wild Estonia has not had a good effect on either. That’s why it happens that a few days later, laying in the ditch, your life will end. The round silhouette of the beauty queen of 1994 Järva County weaves in the last fading glance…

But then! Something wonderful and strange happens! Suddenly you find yourself standing in the middle of a town square. There are gray buildings all around, a wind is blowing from the sea, and only people wearing the Soviet army’s green uniform are moving around. You look around with an astonished look, and then with an even more amazed look, you look down and see, that you are wearing an old-fashioned suit and a walking stick with a golden button. You will touch your face and will find from there small round glasses, a mustache with upturned ends and a goatee. Something completely unbelievable has happened and you have reincarnated as Amandus Adamson in 1975 in Paldiski! It is a closed secret military city, where no stranger has anything to do! Especially the reincarnation of Amandus Adamson! That’s why you sneak away from the town square. As you move along, you try to avoid people and find your way out of the city until for a moment you are met by a woman with curly dark hair wearing a long dress what is buttoned up until neck. As you get closer, you rub your eyes in confusion, because you recognize the her with great confusion! This is Lydia Koidula! ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lydia_Koidula ) It turns out that the intervening year has not been gracious also to the beauty queen of 1994 Järva County. The bad lifestyle and exaggeration with cheap wine have also killed her. And the same incredible events that led to your awakening as Amandus Adamson have reincarnated the beauty queen of 1994 Järvamaa County into Lydia Koidula. This now complicates the situation even further, as there are now two people to flee. Panic takes over and you start running hard towards the fence surrounding the City. Lydia aka the beauty queen of 1994 Järvamaa County does everything in her power to keep up with you, but the long dress makes it difficult to run until she finally falls on her stomach. You try to help the girl up, but at the same time there is a shout “Stoi! Streljat budu! ”You are forced to leave Lydia there and continue alone. You will quickly reach the fence city and in a moment climb over it. This marks the beginning of a new escape through the wild 1975 Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic

TASK

WHERE CAN I GO?

Wherever direction you want. Of course, going sea is not a very sustainable choice, but if you still want to, why not.

ARE THERE NO RESTRICTIONS THEN AT ALL?

In fact, there is still one limitation. Major intercity main roads may only be used for a maximum length of 1 km and only once per every road during the escape period. Crossing the road (both above and below) is also considered as use. Light roads and collection roads that run alongside main roads are also considered as part of main road. It should be noted that the main roads do not end at the city limits, but also continue inside the settlements and are also prohibited there.

When walking in the forest / field next to the main road, keep at least 500 meters away. If another road adjacent to the main road that is closer than 500 meters is used, it is only allowed if it is a separate road that is not part of the main road and has a separate marking. When planning your escape route, you could consult with the organizer if you want to use roads, what are suspicious.

As an exception, it is allowed to use main road number 8 until Treppoja junktion (coordinates: 59.341200702889495, 24.266780536025855)

IF I WOULD HAVE A TANK, COULD I  USE THAT?

No! All progress must be made on foot and no aids what would help to move on, may be used.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I AM TIRED AND CANT CONTINUE?

Soviet army will execute you right away onsite! Next, you have to evacuate yourself.

If the situation is critical, you must call the Rescue Center, because the organizer does not have any ability to rescue anyone anywhere.

IF 24 HOURS ARE FULL, WHAT WILL HAPPEN THEN?

Congratulations, you have successfully escaped! Next, you should see for yourself what happens next. You are completely free to do whatever you want.

P.S. After that, you should find a way to home.

IS THERE ANY FOOD OR DRINK OFFERED SOMEWHERE?

No! You have to manage yourself! If a roadside shop or gas station is open, you can get something from there.

IS ANY HELP ALLOWED FROM SUPPORT CREW?

Yes it is. But you can’t move forward using the assistance. Not a meter!

If the weather is bad and you are not very experienced in the fine art of escaping Soviet army, it would even be advisable to have a support team who can provide warm/dry clothes or you can rest or sleep in their car.

HOW ARE THE RESULTS BEEN GENERATED?

All fugitives get a GPS tracker to track their movements. The location where they will be on 03.04, at 12:00 will be taken into account. The result will be the distance between the place of departure and the place of completion as straight line as a bird’s eye view. Absolutely no one cares if you’ve actually covered a quadrillion kilometers to get there.

If you decide to finish before 24 hours have elapsed, you must send an SMS to the organizer with your name and end time. In this case, the place where you are at that moment is taken into account as the result.

Organizers monitor everyone’s movement 24 hours for safety reasons and will contact you if you have stopped for a longer time. If you plan for a stop, what will take longer than 30 minutes, please send SMS with that information to same number, then you can sleep without interruption.

Please write this number somewhere or save it on your phone. If you also use your phone for navigation, you should definitely have a battery pack with you. We will publish the phone number before the start. It will be also printed to inner side of race number.

MANDATORY EQUIPMENT

– A headlamp that must be lit in the dark

– There must be a red flashing light visible behind the body, which must be on from the start.

– Spare batteries for both the headlamp and the red flashing light

– Mobile phone switched on

– Reflective vest

– GPS tracker provided by the organizer, which must be attached to the hand or in a bag on top of things (attached to the bag wall with a safety pin).

ESCAPE WITH BICYCLE

As a separate class, there is possibility to escape by bicycle. The following exceptions to the general rules apply to a bicycle class:

– It is allowed to use any non-motorized bicycle to move forward.

– The control time for escaping with bicycles is 12 hours, ie the escape with bicycles ends on 02.04 at 24:00

All other parts of the guide, including the ban on the use of main roads and the mandatory equipment to be taken, also apply to escape by bicycle.

AWARDS

The three best men, women and cyclists will be awarded. Prizes will be sent to everyone by post after the escape.

The fugitive is responsible for the GPS tracker given to him and if something happens to it, he is obliged to pay 150.- €.

If the fugitive does not send out the GPS tracker on 04.04, a fine of 10.- € will be applied for each day of delay.

Registration is possible from 01.03.2022 to 31.03.2022.

1. Later registration is not possible.

Participants have to be reached the age of 18 at the day of start to be allowed participate.

When registering, we will ask you for the name and telephone number of the emergency contact. An emergency contact is a person who is responsible for your safety during the escape. He/she needs to know in detail about your planned journey. If you have been idle during the escape for more than 30 minutes and have not notified us, the organizer will first try to contact you by phone. If this is not possible, the emergency contact will be contacted and from that moment he/she will be responsible for contacting you. If necessary, he/she must be able to go for looking for you. The emergency contact must be immediately available by telephone throughout the escape.

If you want an invoice to pay for registration, please notify us by e-mail to info@haanjamatkad.ee before filling in the form, adding information about the recipient of the invoice (company details in case of a legal entity)! The organizer will not issue an invoice retroactively (after paying the participation fee)!

P.S. By registering, the escapee confirms that he or she is a healthy person who is physically able to escape for a long time and has understood that the organizer does not take any responsibility for anything that may happen to you during the escape.
